Nestled among towering pines and hills, Tahitian Village is located approximately 25 miles east of Austin and on the eastern side of Bastrop. Tahitian Drive is the primary entrance and initiates at the second stop light east of the Colorado River Bridge, officially, at the intersection of Loop 150 and Hwy 71 East. Hwy 71 is actually the northern border of Tahitian Village. The beautiful Colorado River borders the southern side, with a few homes located across the meandering river. This unique area of Bastrop County, known as the Lost Pines to people in the region, is marked by thick stands of loblolly pines throughout the entire area. Finding your way around Tahitian Village without a map is futile. However, maps are available at the Water District office. This office is located at 106 Conference Drive, about miles from Hwy 71 and Tahitian Drive. You will find the ladies working at the front desk to be very friendly, helpful and informative. Tahitian Village has approximately 7,000 lots on which about 2,000 homes are presently located. The lots are generally large, one quarter acre or larger. The terrain is a combination of steep hillsides and deep valleys that limit construction opportunities on a large percentage of the lots. These factors, combined with the dense, mature loblolly pines, create a very special opportunity for privacy and a feeling of spaciousness. Tahitians home building began in the early 1970s, and new construction is very common today. Large lot sizes and enforcement of building restrictions allow a unique blend of homes of all ages and styles to fit aesthetically. There are five sections of Tahitian Village. Section 5, containing few pine trees, is located at the west end of the development behind the high school baseball fields. The most popular entrance to Section 5 is from Lovers Lane which is the first exit east of the Colorado River. Sections 5 and 3 require septic, while Sections 1, 2 and 4 have sewer available at this time. Created by Billy Martindale and Don January, Tahitians Pine Forest 18-hole, 72 par golf course was completed in 1979. Five holes border the Colorado River with the remaining 13 interacting with the steep canyons and hills. The challenging course provides many beautiful views. Facilities also include an oversized 3,000 square foot putting green, driving range and practice sand bunkers complete with chipping greens. The fully stocked Pine Forest Golf Club is complimented with a large covered patio, snack/beverage bar and banquet facilities. Lakeside Hospital opened in 2006 and is located on Hwy 71 approximately one mile from Tahitian Drive. Next to the hospital is a new 35,000 square foot professional office building that consists primarily of doctors and medical related businesses.
